Coach Twitty Basketball in Nadi Fiji: Turning Defense into Offense

Nadi Fiji Basketball Clinic: Turning "D.I.O" = Defense Into Offense. How? Let's Discuss. But 1st, keep this in mind: Many Young Adults playing Basketball love the Game of Basketball with a primary focus on the Offensive Game of Basketball. The Primary focus on Offense from young Adults is understandable because young adults pick up on things like: What's considered Popular? Successful? Rewarding? Cool? and to some extent Easier?

If you ask any young adult playing Basketball about DEFENSE they will most likely say DEFENSE is not Popular, Successful, Rewarding, Cool and definitely not Easy. DEFENSE will get pushed aside and neglected by alot of young adults playing Basketball for the reasons mentioned above and because they do not know how to play DEFENSE and DEFENSE was never taught or made a primary focus.

Now, Let's Discuss Turning "D.I.O" = DEFENSE Into Offense. Teach DEFENSE! Commit to DEFENSE! Take Risks on DEFENSE by being aggressive! and Actually Show! Young Adult Basketball Players how to guard right handed Basketball Players and left handed Basketball players. Make DEFENSE Fun - A right handed Basketball player will try to drive toward the DEFENSE left shoulder/arm. Play a right handed player entirely on his or her right side/right arm. A left handed Basketball player will try to drive toward the DEFENSE right shoulder/arm. Play a left handed player entirely on his or her left side/left arm. With a wide stance forcing the right handed player to his or her left side and the left handed player to his or her right side during the entire game. If the offensive player shoots and dribbles with his or her right hand or shoots and dribbles with his or her left hand, you will notice the determination of that right handed player to still go to his or her right side and the determination of that left handed player to go to his or her left side even with you cutting off their strong side. The intent is to frustrate the offensive player & make the offensive player go in the direction he or she feels least comfortable. All it takes sometimes with Great DEFENSE is the ability to throw the offensive player off just a little bit. In order for DEFENSE to become Popular, Successful, Rewarding, Cool & Easy! Players and Coaches will have to buy into the old idea that defense actually win games. Video illustrations are sometimes the best teacher and I will keep this in mind moving forward. But for now, Please read & reread and then get out there on that court & make DEFENSE your #1 Priority.
